Services

As a Catholic school, SMASA espouses a Catholic Doctrine, traditions and practices. It is inherent to the school to educate the learners in a Catholic way of life. Learners belonging to different religious denomination are therefore encouraged and required to attend spiritual activities of the school such as First Friday Masses, Feast Day activities e.g. Marian Feasts and Ignacian Feasts, Retreats, Recollections and other related activities as stipulated in pages 416-417 of the 1998 Revised Edition of the Manual of Regulations for Private schools.

A chapel is located at the first floor of the St. Ann Building for worship and for prayer. Frequent visit to the Blessed Sacrament is encouraged to develop intimacy with God. Devotions that will enhance the Marian - Ignacian Spirit are also encouraged.

The Christian Formation Center is an embodiment of four areas particularly:

1. CAMPUS MINISTRY - It provides opportunity for learners to enhance their faith and spirituality and find greater meaning to their lives.

To enhance the spiritual growth of the learners, a 2 full day spiritual retreat is conducted to Grade 10. also, an overnight retreat is conducted to Grade 6 and a one whole day recollection is given to all Grade 9.
Meanwhile, recollections for Grades 4 & 5, parent child-encounter to Grade 7 & 8 are given on a half day basis. Annual confessions moreover are also given to Grades 3 to 10. The school observes First Friday devotions, seminars for spiritual growth, and other religious practices such as Marian and Ignacian Feast days.

2. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM - Integral to the faith formation of the learner is the CIP program. The program provides the fertile ground where this faith can blossom through service and sharing.  The different activities form learners to be a loving neighbor to others by an active witnessing to stewardship where giving of oneself, resources and gifts becomes a lifestyle. It also molds learners to become critically aware, socially involved and responsible individuals who are committed to be active agents of change in the society where they belong. 

3. CHRISTIAN LIVING AREA – The school offers Christian Living in all year levels. As the core of the curriculum, the objective of the area is to deepen the personal knowledge and intimacy with Jesus through the Scriptures, love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and commitment to the mission of the Church.

4. FAMILY AND LIFE EDUCATION PROGRAM – This program aims to guide SMASA in providing opportunities in the strengthening of families, the youth, communities and individuals through education, information, prevention and empowering family members to lead productive lives and become contributing citizens to the community.

THE STUDENT ACTIVITY PROGRAM

St. Mary’s Academy of Sta. Ana believes that learning is complemented by the different activities for learners that will enhance their learning environment. The program stimulates the learning process by integrating in-class and out-of-class experiences, promoting an environment conducive to growth and discovery, and facilitating intellectual, spiritual, social, physical, cultural, and emotional development of every Marian. The student activity program of St. Mary’s Academy of Sta. Ana develops and nourishes the following for every Marian:

LEADERSHIP

Student leadership involves self-awareness of one’s capability to lead. It develops direct and honest communication, respect for one’s self and to others, building trust, visualization of group purpose and desired outcomes and teamwork. It is also a way where leaders become role models/mentors to other Marians following the teaching of Christ and the virtues of the Blessed Mother Mary and Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo.

The leadership program is also committed to develop civic responsibility, initiation of change for the common good, responsibility, and accountability.
 

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

The cognitive development of every Marian learner involves the acquisition of knowledge, enhancement of the critical thinking , utilization of complex information from a variety of sources to make decisions or form opinions and application of prior information to a new situation. Through the varied learner activities, the following are developed:

1. Writing and speaking coherently and effectively

2. Expressing appreciation for literature, arts, math, science, history and etc.

3. Integrating in-class and out-of-class learning into real life situation and decision-making

4. utilizing informed views in writing, speech through different

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY

St. Mary’s Academy views every Marian as a member of a global community who participates in the development, maintenance, and/or orderly change of community, social norms, and care for others and for God’s creation.

IGNACIAN SPIRITUALITY

SMASA provides an atmosphere that cultivates the spiritual growth of every Marian by promoting a culture of prayer, by caring for the less privilege and by upholding the dignity of God’s creation.

The activities serve as venues for developing the spirituality of the learners and making them Christ-like who imitate the footsteps of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo.

CO-CURRICULAR ENRICHMENT

The total Christian formation of the learners does not depend solely on academic training inside the classrooms. To supplement and enrich classroom learning experiences, the school offers a wide array of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities conducted or sponsored by the different clubs or organizations. The activities aim to promote the intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual growth of the learners so that they may become productive, responsive and creative members of the school, family and society. The learners are given opportunities for training in initiative, leadership, responsibility, cooperation, service and generosity. Talents and gifts are tapped, developed and shared with others. Club activities promote love for and loyalty to the school, home and community.

The learners have the freedom to choose the organizations that cater to their interests.

The Student Development Center in partnership with other educators, parents, guardians and the community aims to aid the learners in the various aspects of development involved in their education and maturation into fully functioning individuals in the society.

OBJECTIVES

The Student Development Center aims to:

• Provide the learners with personal, educational, career, health, social, recreational and religious guidance.
• Identify the learners’ abilities, needs, interests, aptitudes, plans and goals for satisfactory and productive adjustment to life.
• Develop the learners in such a way that they can fit into the culture, make their maximum contribution to and assist in their advancement in the society.
• Provide the learners with means that are important in developing their personhood to fully respond to the demands of time and to society where they belong.
• Focus on the youth and their future as they make plans, choices, interpretations, and adjustments.

1. ORIENTATION PROGRAM

The orientation program of the Student Development Center is composed of collective topics which include the school’s history, vision and mission, milestones and achievements, school officials and different school units, policies, rules and regulations of the school, and the life of Mother Ignacia Del Espiritu Santo.

Creative presentations and games capture the interests of its stakeholders from K to 12. Late enrollees are also conducted with special orientation sessions.

2. INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING

The counseling services observe flexibility and client-friendly approach in guiding the learners towards good decision making. As the focal point of the center, counseling services primary aim is to direct the client into a result-oriented resolution and conclusion. Counseling services may be individual or group. It also may be availed through walk-in or referral basis.

3. TESTING AND EVALUATION SERVICES

These services provide objective measure of the learners’ intelligence, aptitudes, interests, personality and achievement. The Testing and Evaluation Services also provides data that may be used for improvement of the academic curricular, faculty-student relationship and many others. Moreover, the evaluation services aims to pulse the efficiency and effectiveness of school services and offerings.

4. INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY SERVICE

The individual inventory service is the embodiment of a process by which a client is individually analyzed in different aspects:

a. Personal Information

b. Family background

c. Socio-Economic Status

d. Study Habits, Interests and Social Environment and Behavior

e. Vocational Interests

f. Psychometric results

Consultations with learners are conducted annually to update their data, using assessment forms carefully designed by the SDC to cater to their developmental needs.

   a. In-interview (routine interview) - usually conducted on first semester
   b. Exit interview - usually conducted on second semester

5. CAREER AND PLACEMENT SERVICES

The Career Awareness Program ensures to cascade the information about career pathing among its objectives is to aid learners to discern and plan for their chosen career in the future through a series of career awareness activities such as individual and group career counseling sessions, test interpretation consulatations, seminars on career awareness, homeroom module integrations, on site college application processing and career fair.

6. HOMEROOM GUIDANCE PROGRAM /LIFE ENRICHMENT PERIOD

The Homeroom Guidance Program / Life enrichment Program is an activity done in the classroom in order to provide an interactive environment of learning values, proper behavior, imbibing the ideals of the RVM Foundress, Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo, social and environmental issues, family and life issues; and friendship and relationships topics which may be an avenue to share and partake life's experiences. Modules are given to the homeroom advisers who will facilitate the modules. An annual training for facilitators are also done.

7. SPECIAL LIFE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS, SEMINARS AND TRAININGS

The Special Life Enrichment Seminars are seminars with topics relating to learning values, proper behavior and etiquitte, study habits, imbibing the ideals of the RVM Foundress, Mother Ignacia Del Espiritu Santo, social and environmental issues, family and life issues, the JEEPGY and; friendhsips and relationships topics which are given by the Student Development Officers mostly in a half-day session. Mental Health and Psychosocial Sessions are also included in the SDC's program.

Topics are presented in a creative and fun filled way to capture the audience interests. Moreover, special seminars are offered for individuals who may be interested to enrich their life skills through listening and participating on special modules. Meanwhile, the training services aims to enrich one’s knowledge over a particular topic through workshops.

8. FOLLOW-UP SERVICES

The follow-up services are different techniques to monitor the adaptability of the alumni to their new social environment. Activities are done through interviews and surveys.

1. SERVICE HOURS

The IMC is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday without noon breaks. To avail of the IMC services making the reservation for the venue is necessary.

The IMC is closed every Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.However, when there is a need for the use of its facilities, arrangements can be made with the IMC Staff.

2. CLIENTELE

The IMC facilities and services are offered to:

1. All learners currently enrolled in the school.
2. All faculty and personnel of the school.
3. Parents and members of SMASA Alumni Association (with approved letter of request)
4. Former employees and visitors (with approved letter of request who wish to avail of the services of the center)
    

3. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR IN THE LIBRARY AREA

a. Respect and courtesy must be observed in dealing with the IMC Staff at all times.

b. Keep the Library Area conducive for learning. Observe silence at all times.

c. Unnecessary group discussion and other distracting noise must be avoided.

d. Before entering the Library area, all personal belongings (bags, folders/envelopes, containers, umbrellas, etc.) must be placed on the counter reserved for them. Only needed notebooks, paper and writing materials may be brought inside the Library.

e. In case the learner needs to bring his/her personal book, he/ she must inform the Librarian or Library Assistants about the matter.

f. Handle all books and Library materials with care. Stealing, defacing or mutilating of books periodicals and other IMC materials are considered grave offenses. Replacement or payment of the lost materials due to negligence of the borrower will be demanded. Furthermore, offenders will be subjected to disciplinary action according to the provisions of the Student Handbook once found guilty.

g. No two learners can sit on one chair or more than six learners to occupy one table.

h. As a rule, learners must present first the borrowed materials to the IMC Staff for proper inspection prior to leaving the library.

i. The Use of the library by a class is most welcome provided that the subject teacher makes a reservation with the Librarian or Library Assistant. The booking must be made at least one day prior to the scheduled use of the library.

j. Eating, sleeping and littering are not allowed inside the Library area.

k. Keep the place clean and in order, and return all chairs used upon leaving the library.

l. Use the Internet in a responsible manner. The following are strictly prohibited:

• the use of flash drive or other storage devices
• encoding of reports, doing of projects and checking of e-mail
• abuse or misuse of computers
• attempting to install or modify programs designed to damage or alter the software
• accessing files, passwords or data belonging to others.
• accessing to pornographic materials and sexually explicit graphics,
• displaying or transmitting profane, abusive or threatening language and harassing materials.
• violating copyright law by unauthorized copying of software or other research information taken from the Internet.

5. BOOK RESERVATION AND BORROWING DURING ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING

BORROWING OF BOOKS

1. Online reservation of books will be done by the borrowers by accomplishing the Check-Out Form. (Click here)
2. Book/s requested will be ready after two working days from the date of request. The borrower will be notified via official email/Genyo once the book/s is /are ready for pick up.
3. All requested book/s will be safely packed and will be ready for pick up at the Guard House.
4. Pick-up time is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday and 8:00 am to 11:30am on Saturday.
5. A representative may get the book/s on behalf of the borrower by presenting the borrower’s ID.

RETURNING POLICY

1. Before returning the book, accomplish and submit the “Book Return Form”. (Click here)
2. The borrowers are responsible for ensuring that all library materials are returned in good condition, that is, in the same condition as when the items were checked out.
3. The books may be dropped off at the designated book drop stations at the Guard House from 7:00 am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

BOOK RENEWAL

1. Book/s may be renewed online by accomplishing the Book Renewal Form (Click here). The learners and school personnel can renew the borrowed book/s only once.

OVERDUE/ PENALTY POLICY

1. The IMC Personnel will send an overdue notification to the borrower/s, 2 days before the actual due date of the book/s.
2. The borrower who failed to return the book on time will pay the overdue fine of Php 5.00 per book and per day starting from the overdue date.

AV MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT

Equipment and materials may be borrowed by the school personnel who are reporting on-site upon accomplishing and submitting the google form (Click here). Returning of the equipment and materials is from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

1 SERVICE HOURS

The AVR is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday with no noon breaks. To avail of the AV center services, there is a need to make necessary reservation for the venue, for materials and equipment ahead of time for proper scheduling and early preparation.

2. CLIENTELE

The facilities and services of the AVR are offered to:

a. All currently enrolled learners in the school

b. All faculty and personnel of the school

c. The parents and members of the SMA Alumni Association

d. Former employees and visitors who wish to avail of the services of the AVR with proper permission from Administration

3. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

a. Reservation should be made three (3) days before their scheduled date of use. The use of the AV Room is on a first come, first served basis. Likewise, reservation for AV materials and equipment must be done at least three (3) days before its scheduled use.

b. Faculty and learners should counter-check their borrowed materials or equipment before leaving the center. Damaged or lost materials or equipment must be reported at once tothe AVR in-charge or AVR aide.

c. If an equipment is found damaged when returned, the last borrower will be considered liable.

d. Borrowers must notify the AVR in-charge immediately if the material or equipment does not function before it is released to them.

e. All borrowed materials/equipment should not be taken out of the school campus unless permission from the administration has been secured and has been granted.

f. Arrange preview schedules of audio-visual materials with AV in-charge anytime during office hours.

g. Eating, sleeping, littering and any form of vandalism are not allowed in the viewing room. The users will be held responsible for the facilities and equipment during the time of activities.

h. All borrowed materials and equipment must be returned on its due date or not later than 5:00. p.m. If the class schedule is beyond 5:00 pm, kindly inform the AV In-charge.

i. Inability to return materials and equipment on time shall result to suspension of the user's borrowing privileges.

4. USE OF VIEWING ROOM

a. Silence must be observed while viewing is in session.

b. The subject teacher should always be with the learners during viewing time.

c. The subject teacher should notify the person in-charge after viewing for checking all the materials used by class.

d. Always keep the viewing room in proper order.

e. Eating, littering and loitering are prohibited inside the viewing room.

The Medical and Dental Services aim to provide quality healthcare to learners and personnel by promoting wellness, protection from illness and maintenance of healthy lifestyle and therefore, preparing them for a successful academic and life experience to enable them to reach their maximum state of well-being through God's healing spirit.

Clinic hours is from six o’clock in the morning (6:00 am) to four o’clock in the afternoon (4:00 pm) during weekdays and eight o’clock in the morning (8:00 am) until twelve noon (12:00 nn) during Saturdays.

(Article IV. Sec. 174-176: 2010 Revised Manual of Regulation for Private Schools in Basic Education)

1. Contents of School Records.
   The school records of any transferring pupil or student sent by one school to another should contain the final rating in each subject with the corresponding credits or the action taken thereon; in the case of the elementary level, the general average of the pupil including the monthly rating if the pupil leaves before the completing the school year.

2. Request for School Record
   Upon submission and acceptance of the transfer credentials, the school to which a pupil or student has transferred shall request in writing for the complete school records (Form 137) or transcript of records of the pupil or student from the school last attended. The latter school shall forward such records directly to the school within thirty days from receipt of the request. The school record should not be given to the student unless authorized in writing by the school requesting for the said records.

3. Release of School Records.
   The school records of a student under a penalty of suspension or expulsion shall not be released until the penalty had completed. In case of suspension, the release shall be upon the discretion of the school, while, in case of expulsion, the release shall be upon the approval of the Secretary of Education.
   Certification, transcript of records, and other related documents require cash payment.
   The processing of school records shall be three working days after payment to the cashier. The release of the records is after three working days.

WITHHOLDING OF CREDENTIAL

Withholding of Credentials. (Article IV. Sec. 128: 2010 Revised Manual of Regulations for Private Schools in Basic Education)

The release of the transfer credential/s (F-138-Report Card with the Certificate of Eligibility to Transfer and/or Admission, Good Moral Certificate or a Letter of Recommendation) of any student may  be withheld for reasons of suspension, expulsion or non-payment of financial obligations or property responsibility of the student to the school. The credentials shall be released as soon as his obligations shall have been settled or the penalty of suspension or expulsion lifted.

SMASA implements the same policy for the release of quarterly report cards.

The school canteen provides delicious and palatable meals. Cold drinks and other beverages are also available to meet each learner’s need. A strict no junk food policy is observed always. Learners are tasked to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the canteen and dining areas. Bottles, utensils and dishes should be returned to their proper places after each use. Waste materials should also be disposed properly.

For learners who are not brought to school by private vehicles, a number of school-accredited private transportation services ensure their safety and security. The official school vehicles are used during school representations, competitions, delegations as well as field and exposure trips.
